Katy, Texas – Oct 15, 2011 – Katy, Texas, a suburb 20 miles west of downtown Houston, TX, will be host to the 2011 Katy Ski Jam Oct 14-15, 2011. The world’s top professional & senior tour water ski athletes will compete in traditional slalom ski and long-distance jumping events for $30,000 in prize money. Audiences on hand will be entertained by the best water ski athletes from around the world. Eagle Sports will also be showcasing different types of water sports that they support Saturday evening between 5:30pm and 7pm and will consist of the world’s best Freestyle barefoot water skiers, huge aerial acrobatics of freestyle ski jumping, hydrofoil, and wakeboard.
The 2011 Katy Ski Jam will look to attract top pro slalom ski and water ski jump athletes including top skiers such as Will Asher, World Slalom Champion, Chris Parrish, Slalom World Record Holder, Freddy (“Nightmare”) Krueger, currently World Jump Champion and World Record Holder, as well as 20 of the top senior tour “Big Dawg Slalom” skiers. Eagle Sports will be partnering with Malibu boats to insure these world class athletes are pulled by the world’s #1 selling ski boat.
In slalom skiing, athletes navigate through a six-buoy course at constant speeds of 36 mph at a initial 13-meter line. After completion of each pass, the rope is shortened to increase difficulty. In the breathtaking long-distance jumping, skiers race toward a 6-foot high ramp reaching speeds of 70 mph. World Champion Freddy Krueger, known as the “Michael Jordan of Long Distance Ski Jumping,” recently jumped a phenomenal 236 feet at the Global Invitational night finals held in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
